Eaton MEM provides LV distribution for Heathrow T5

Eaton MEM is supplying low voltage (LV) distribution equipment together with project management services and start-up support, valued at over £8 million, for the new Heathrow Airport Terminal 5:

The scope of supply by Eaton MEM includes temporary site distribution services equipment as well as distribution equipment for Central Terminal Building Concourse A and Concourse B, the energy centre, airside tunnels and multi-storey car parks. Eaton MEM personnel will be working closely with the major building services suppliers AMEC and Crown House. The client, BAA plc, is managing the project.

Equipment to be supplied will include Memform low voltage switchboards, Mempower busbar trunking and loose switchgear, with the possibility of future power factor correction (PFC) and active harmonic control (AHC) power quality management systems. Form 4 Type 7, and Form 4 Type 6 Forms of Separation have been specified for the switchboards.

A proven ability:

Eaton MEM's proven ability to manage major projects in collaboration with other key team members played an important part in securing the T5 contracts. The company has been a major contributor to the various phases of London's Canary Wharf and has worked on other major developments worldwide including Hong Kong International Airport, SEEB International Airport, Oman and Montego Bay Airport, Jamaica.

For Heathrow Airport Terminal 5, the company will provide comprehensive on-site project management through a dedicated team including a Site Project Manager and Application/Design Manager, supported by a dedicated CAD facility.

Terminal 5 is one of Europe's largest construction projects with a value of £4bn. It is scheduled for completion in March 2008 and will increase Heathrow's existing capacity of 63 million passengers per year by another 30 million, allowing for future growth. It includes a core terminal building with two satellites and a world-class public transport interchange served by the Heathrow Express and London Underground's Piccadilly Line. A new 87m high state-of-the-art control tower is also being built to meet Heathrow's Air Traffic Control requirements in the years ahead.
